I&#8217;ve been enjoying listening to and thinking about the prelude to Bach&#8217;s Violin Partita Number 3 in E major as played by Hopkinson Smith.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2dJsXDVVoso?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p>Beautiful though this is, it&#8217;s also a lot of information packed into a small space. I thought it might be more relaxing if it was slower. And that it might be <em>a lot more<\/em> relaxing if it was <em>a lot<\/em> slower. So I used Ableton Live to stretch it out as slow as I possibly could.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->I\u00a0already had the performance all warped out and aligned to the MIDI file for remixing and teaching purposes.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/ethanhein\/bach-violin-partita-in-e-major-prelude-hopkinson-smith-freaks-mix<\/p>\n<p>I slowed the tempo of the audio down as far as Ableton would let me using the Texture warp mode. Then I duplicated the audio and pitched the copy down an octave. I also put a pad sound on the MIDI file.
