The sound we're after now is smarter synths and voice processing, dumber guitars and drums.
Those Robert Palmer hits are rock solid in their structure, but the virtuoso guitar over synth brass sound hasn't aged well.
A good cover is a well-written song with lame arrangement, dated production etc. If it's perfect already there's no room to grow it.
I like cutting tracks with Barbara Singer because she really knows how to pick material. Next tune in the pipeline is by Robert Palmer.
