My collection of transcribed rhythm patterns

For my thesis, I’ve been gathering good drum machine patterns: classic breakbeats, genre templates and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Here they are, enjoy.

Classic breakbeats

  1. Very cool idea but what I don’t understand is the numbering you’ve. In my opinion the 2 and 4 should be used for notating a backbeat Snare (on the 3rd for reggae) which is not the case here. Why?

    1. You’re correct; the way that common time is usually counted, the backbeat is on 2 and 4. Like a lot of informally trained pop musicians, I prefer cut time for dance music, because then the basic pulse is eighth notes rather than sixteenth notes and everything is a lot easier to count. My drum machine app is actually going to have a toggle for cut time vs common time so people can count how they like.
