As long as you don't take a song and note for note copy it and call it your own but instead take parts of songs to make your own song there should be nothing wrong with that. The internet and recording technology is completely changing the music industry dynamic because of free mp3's and bands now able to cheaply record their music on home equipment. A band or singer can now distribute his own music not just at shows or locally but also globally because of the internet. No longer constrained by limits songwriting and music can explode like never before. I totally agree.
