Functional diagrams of the brain

A diagram of the brain systems thought by Gerald Edelman to underlie your consciousness, from his book Wider Than The Sky:

A diagram of a particular eye reflex systemcalled the three neuron arc:

This system is responsible for your vestibulo-ocular reflex, which stabilizes images on the retina during head movement by producing an eye movement in the opposite direction. If your head turns to the left, your eyes turn automatically to the right, and vice versa. Sometimes people call this the 'doll's-eye' reflex.

For many imaginative visual representations of the brain's workings, see Marvin Minsky's ahead-of-its-time book The Society Of Mind. See especially Jared Fishman's groovy Nemulator.
