A giant tree in one of Kanazawa's many spectacular parks. If you visit this city, skip the castle, it's lame, go straight to where the plants are. Supporting a big ancient tree's lateral spread with poles is a pretty common thing in Japanese gardens. I don't know if it's aesthetic or just a way to keep the branches from falling off, but it's a great look.
