Actually, now it seems to be inhabited by wealthy businesspeople, but the buildings and streets are much as they were back in the day. Note the tastefully weathered wabi-sabi garage doors on the right. Note also the rain-slicked stones; I've never been anywhere so rainy as Japan in June, and that includes England and Seattle.
